NECTA engineers carry out testing and inspection of industrial electrical equipment for companies such as BOC and BMW, to ensure their systems are safe and meet the relevant legal requirements for electrical safety. A typical inspection scenario would involve the collection of a large number of results from tests on customer’s equipment. Calculations are performed on results of these tests and an assessment report is drawn up based on the gathered data. Different types of electrical equipment require a range of test certificates to be completed in order to meet safety standards. Engineers performing tests were filling in, by hand, a number of paper forms sometimes with hundreds of results and calculations. These were taken back to their office where data was entered by hand into a computer and further calculations carried out. A report was then typed up by hand and sent to the customer.

Link Software developed a system for NECTA that allows engineers to enter test results directly into an electronic form on a tablet PC. The system provides electronic versions of all the required certificates and all calculations are carried out automatically. An assessment report is generated by the system and emailed automatically to the customer on completion. Not only does the Link Software system make for enormous savings in time and huge improvements in efficiency, but also significantly reduces the possibility of error through poor handwriting or duplicated data entry. NECTA testing and inspection is now streamlined, more efficient, accurate and ultimately more profitable.

Emproma are an environmental management company specialising in asbestos management. On any given site Emproma will have up to 15 certificates that need to be completed based on results of a survey that includes environmental samples and readings from specialist equipment. Historically the wealth of information and recommendations gathered from a site survey would be recorded on paper by hand. This was gathered into what became huge folders of site diagrams, drawings, test readings, sample data and more, all of which would have to be collated manually.

Link Software brought the collection, collation and publishing of site information into one simple online system. The surveyor enters all data into a portable device on site.
